Printing a cash memo on a thermal receipt printer
Most shops use a small thermal printer at the counter. It needs no ink, prints in a second and costs very little per memo. Here is how to get a clean slip from this maker.
Which roll size?

Pick the same size under Paper size in the maker: "Thermal roll 80 mm" (the default here) or "Thermal roll 58 mm". The maker then lays out the memo for that width.
From a computer (Chrome or Edge)
- Install the printer's driver from its maker, and check it prints a test page.
- Make and Save the memo, then press Print / PDF.
- In the print window, choose your thermal printer as Destination.
- Open More settings: set Margins to None, Scale to Default, and untick Headers and footers (otherwise the date and web address print on the slip).
- If there is a Paper size choice, pick the roll size from the driver (names like "80 x 297 mm" or "Roll paper 80 mm").
- Print. Next time the browser remembers these settings.
From a phone
On Android, a thermal printer prints only through a print service. Many printer makers offer a free print-service app; install it, turn it on under the phone's printing settings, then press Print / PDF and choose the printer. On iPhone, only printers that support AirPrint show up. If your printer has no print service, press Share and open the PDF in the printer maker's own app.
Problems and fixes
- A long strip of blank paper comes out. The memo page is set as a long roll; some drivers feed the full length. In the driver's settings choose the roll size that cuts after the content, often called "receipt" or "auto cut".
- Text is tiny or cut at the side. The paper size in the maker and in the print window do not match. Make both 80 mm or both 58 mm, and set Scale to Default.
- The logo or QR code is grey or patchy. Thermal printers print only black dots. Use a simple dark logo; if the QR code is faint, tick Background graphics and raise the printer's darkness setting.
- The date and web address print at the top. Untick Headers and footers.
Keep a copy that lasts
Thermal print fades with heat, sunlight and time, often within months. The maker keeps every memo under Saved cash memos, and My data lets you save one backup file of all of them. For an important sale, also share the PDF to the customer on WhatsApp.
